Fastest batsmen to 1000 Test runs
Herbert Sutcliffe is the only batsman to score 1000 runs in test cricket in less than a year.
Herbert Sutcliffe
Herbert Sutcliffe is a part of quite a few batting lists and why wouldn't he be with an average of over 60 in test cricket, including 16 tons and 23 half-centuries. Sutcliffe was born in Yorkshire in 1894 and represented England in test cricket between 1924 and 1935.
During the 11 years, he scored 4555 runs from 54 matches and registered several records. One of them was being the quickest batsman to score his first 1000 runs in test cricket. The batsman took just 244 days to achieve the feat and did it in his ninth test match. Interestingly, he still holds the record which was set in 1925.
Sir Everton Weekes
Sir Everton Weekes, just like Herbert Sutcliffe, was a prolific run getter. The West Indian batting legend made his debut in January 1948 and raced to 1000 runs in test cricket within one year and 14 days.
Just like Sutcliffe, Weekes also took 9 matches or 12 innings to reach the milestone, bringing it up in February 1949 against India in Mumbai.
Sir Don Bradman
Sir Don Bradman took one year and 223 days to complete his first 1000 runs in test cricket. He reached the milestone in just 7 test matches in his 13th innings against England at Leeds on 11 July, 1930 after having made his debut on 30 November, 1928.
Neil Harvey
Australia's Neil Harvey was also a prolific batsman who finished with 6149 runs from 79 test matches at an average of 48.41. He struck 21 centuries and 24 half-centuries.
Representing Australia between 1948 and 1963, Harvey took two years and 312 days to reach the 1000-run milestone in test cricket. It was his 14th inning when he brought up the feat against England in December 1950.
Vinod Kambli
India's Vinod Kambli was very quick to get off the blocks and reached 1000 runs in test cricket within one year and 293 days. Kambli reached the milestone against West Indies at Mumbai in November 1994 after having made his debut in January 1993.
It was just his 14 test match when Kambli achieved the feat. However, he could not sustain his success at the highest level and was discarded from the national team shortly thereafter.
