Few interesting facts about Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the ocean

Have you ever thought of something more profound than the highest mountain? If not, then it's going to be shocking for you.

Mariana Trench is considered the most profound part of the world. You can compare the world's tallest mountain with it, and the topmost peak of the mountain would go beneath the water. Now let's talk about it in detail. The Mariana Trench or Marianas Trench is located in the western Pacific Ocean, around 200 kilometres east of the Mariana Islands. This crescent-shaped trench is measured approximately 2,550 km in length and 69 km in width. The southern end of this trench, known as Challenger Deep, is considered the deepest slot with around 10,984 meters. However, there are so many exciting facts apart from its depth. To understand these, let's have a look at the article.

It is believed that Mariana Trench is the place of many ancient and unseen living creatures.

Despite the deficiency of light and few other living conditions, there are more than 200 micro-organisms and other living creatures alive in the deep of the trench. It is believed that the ancient and unseen species of Shark, named Megalodon, who used to live approximately 23 to 3.6 million years ago, is still alive there.

Facts related to its discovery

It was discovered during the circumnavigation in 1875 and named according to the Mariana Islands located behind the trench. This expedition had a revolutionary success in oceanography as the ship went 70,000 nautical miles and explored 4700 new species.

The temperature is both hot and cold.

As no sunlight reaches there, the water temperature is very low, around 34 to 39 degrees Fahrenheit. But as there are hydrothermal vents throughout the trench, the water that comes out is about 700 degrees Fahrenheit which is unbearable. Another problem is the tremendous pressure of the water which can't be tolerated by any vessel.

It has been used in many fictional stories.

This trench has triggered the imagination of so many writers. Its mystery is incorporated in a fiction named ‘Meg’ by New York Times bestselling author Steve Alten. The hero, Jonas Taylor, explores the trench and comes across a long-extinct predator, the Carcharodon megalodon. It was a 20-ton beast that could destroy a T-Rex easily.

That's all about the world's deepest place, the Mariana Trench.
