In Bollywood or any film industry, a movie takes usually spans a time period of days, weeks, years, or even decades. However, some movies tell stories that take place within a span of twenty-four hours or even less than that. A Wednesday (2008)
Released in 2008, A Wednesday tells the story of a single day and it had Naseeruddin Shah as an unknown man and AnupamKher as a police commissioner.
A Wednesday is a thriller movie that takes place within a time period of twelve hours or even less. It’s the story of an unknown man played by Naseeruddin Shah who planted four bombs in the city and threatens the authorities that if his demands are not met, many innocent lives will get lost. AnupamKher plays the role of a Police commissioner who has to solve the case within a few hours. Unarguably it’s one of the most gripping movies ever and you can’t even blink for a second because the movie is fast-paced and quite detailed. When the identity and motive of the unknown man come out, you will be shocked (in a good way of course).
Ittefaq (1969)
Ittefaq is a murder mystery and the story takes place in a single night. Directed by Yash Chopra and starring Rajesh Khanna and Nanda, the movie was ahead of its time and was a big hit when released.
Ittefaq tells the story of Dilip Roy (Rajesh Khanna) who was accused of murdering his wife and declared mentally unstable by the court. One night he managed to escape from the mental asylum and broke into the house of Rekha (Nanda). Things get more complicated when a dead body is found in the house. The movie had various twists and turns that keeps the audience guessing what is going to happen next. Rajesh Khanna was not a superstar when the movie was released but it was a box office success and Rajesh Khanna’s acting was praised by the audience and critics alike.
Kaun (1999)
Kaun is a suspense thriller movie directed by Ramgopal Varma right after the success of his gangster movie ‘Satya’.The whole movie takes place inside a bungalow with only three characters.
Kaun was made during the times when Ramgopal Varma used to make great movies, unlike today. After the super success of Satya, Ramgopal Varma could have easily made a movie with big stars but instead, he choose to make Kaun, a suspense thriller movie with just three characters and shot entirely inside a bungalow. In the movie the character of Urmila is alone in her house when she watches the news of a serial killer on run, suddenly things get scary when an unknown stranger (ManojBajpai) arrives in her house asking for help as his car broke down. The movie also featured Sushant Singh who claims of being a police officer. The events of the movie take place within a single night. At 90 minutes, with no songs, Kaun has one of the best climaxes ever and when the identity of the serial killer gets revealed, it will send a chill down your spine.
A Thursday (2022)
Starring YaminiGautam, A Thursday was recently released on Disney Hot Star and it follows the story of Naina (YaminiGautam) a playschool teacher who kidnaps sixteen of her students, and what happens next forms the crux of the movie.
A Thursday has nothing to do with the movie A Wednesday as it’s a standalone movie of its own. In the movie, YaminiGautam plays a playschool teacher who takes 16 students as her hostage. She warns the police and the government that if her demands are not met, she will kill the students one by one. Her obscure demands send shockwaves across the country. The movie got mixed reviews upon release but everyone praised Yamani Gautam for her performance as a traumatized girl seeking revenge.
EkChaliski Last Local (2007)
EkChaliski Last Local is a black comedy movie that tells the story of a man who misses the last local train at 1.40 am and the events that follow him during the rest of the night.
EkChaliski Last Local featured AbhayDeol, who is known for choosing movies that are different from mainstream Bollywood movies. EkChaliski Last Local follows the story of NileshRastogi (AbhayDeol) who works in a call centre, and after missing his train meets Madhu (Neha Dhupia), a prostitute and they find themselves in each other's company after being ousted from the railway platform by policemen. T. Together they embark on a journey full of misadventures within the period of a single night. During their misadventures, they get entangled in a series of funny yet dangerous situations. Somehow they survive the rest of the night and board the next train in the morning to their respective homes. The movie also featured Nawazuddin Siddiqui in a very small almost unrecognizable role before his big break in Gangs of Wasseypur.
