Five Movies with Exactly Same Plot

It’s believed that there are only seven basic narratives plots in all storytelling. If it’s true then it’s obvious that there are high chances of two totally unrelated movies having the same plotline. Here we have compiled a list of five pairs of movies that have similar plots.

‘Deep Impact’ and ‘Armageddon’

Deep Impact and Armageddon have a similar plot of where a huge meteorite is going to hit the earth and a group of astronauts go on a mission to save the earth.

Both Deep Impact and Armageddon were released in the same year i.e. 1998 and despite having no connection with each other, both of them share the same basic plotline. A meteorite (a huge stone from outer space) is going to hit the earth soon which will destroy all the life forms on earth. A team of highly skilled and brave astronauts is given the task to stop the meteor and save the earth.

‘No Strings Attached’ and ‘Friends with Benefits’

As the titles of both movies suggest, it’s a movie about a casual relationship where no one is committed to each other.

The basic plots of both the movies are the same when a boy and a girl decide to be in a relationship with no commitments and it’s just a casual fling for fun. ‘Friends with Benefit’ and ‘No Strings Attached’ were released within a gap of six months with each other and followed the same plot of two people who decided to get into a casual relationship but end up falling in love.

‘Dances with Wolves’ and ‘Avatar’

You might be thinking that how come two very different movies of different genres can have the same plotline but in the case of these two movies, the answer is yes, both of them have the same plotline.

When Avatar was released in 2009, it created a mass hysteria across the globe for being a technically superb movie and it remains the highest-grossing movie ever. But after watching Avatar, many believed that it has the same story arc of both leading men, where they infiltrate the enemy, become a part of their world, and started having sympathy for the rivals after understanding their suffering and finally joining them in the battle against his own people.

“White House Down” and “Olympus Has Fallen”

The stories of both movies are the same where the protagonists have to save the President of the USA from the terrorists.

Both “White House Down” and “Olympus Has Fallen” did pretty decent business but got negative reviews from the critics. The plot of both the movies is identical where the White House is under attack by the terrorists and our leading men goes on a mission to save the President while getting rid of the terrorists.

‘A Fistful of Dollars’ and ‘Yojimbo’

Most people believe that Sergio Leone’s famous western “A Fistful of Dollars” is heavily inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s samurai film, “Yojimbo.”

‘A Fistful of Dollars’ and ‘Yojimbo’ share an uncanny resemblance as both the movies tell about a stranger with no name and expert weaponry skills who comes to a town where there is a conflict between two groups and the stranger pits both the groups against each other to get rid the town people from oppression.
