Five Strangest Things Discovered From The Ocean by Deep Sea Divers

From lost cities to hidden treasures, there have been many discoveries that led to the findings of countless bizarre and valuable things from the bottom of the oceans.

The oceans are home to numerous mysteries. Thus, it does not startle us when deep sea explorers unveil some truly bizarre things from the deepest and darkest ocean floors. Check out some strangest things discovered by deep sea divers.

Giant Lego man

Imagine going for a leisurely walk by the beach, only to stumble upon an 8-foot-tall Lego figurine washed up at the shore. Odd, right? It gets weirder when people start running into such tall Lego figurines more than once and in different places in the world. The Lego men have been spotted wearing t-shirts that read ‘No Real Than You Are’, and are the work of Ego Leonard, a Dutch sculptor and painter, who places these figurines on beaches in the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Japan, and America.

Rubber ducks

In 1998, a catastrophic storm tumbled over a shipping container carrying twenty-eight thousand rubber ducks. The rubber ducks, over the years, have been spotted by people on the shores of South America, Scotland, Hawaii, Australia, and Alaska. Some followers and researchers track the progress of these ducks, aka Friendly Floatees, to better understand the direction of water currents.

Apollo rocket engines

During the 1960s and 1970s, several Apollo rockets were launched to orbit the moon and earth. But the engines that powered the boosters, dropped during the first stage of the flight and mostly ended up on the ocean floor, often considered to have been lost forever. However, Jeff Bezos, the Amazon CEO, funded a private project to recover those rocket engines. The parts were recovered in 2012 and are currently on display at the Museum of Flight in Seattle.

Emerald treasure

In 2010, Jay Miscovich, an amateur treasure hunter, discovered over ten thousand emeralds on the shore of Key West in Florida, USA. The worth of the emeralds is estimated at half a billion dollars, and his finding earned him immense attention from the media. But soon, the events grabbed the attention of the Federal officers, who granted Miscovich only temporary ownership of the emeralds, implying he is legally forbidden from selling them.

The submerged city of Alexandria

The Ancient submerged city of Alexandria, was governed by Cleopatra, the last Pharaoh of Egypt, and is still perfectly conserved under the sea. Scientists suggest that the city vanished under the sea owing to a series of natural catastrophes, such as earthquakes and high tidal waves. The ancient city remained concealed for nearly 1,600 years until it was unearthed in 1998.

Of all the bizarre discoveries, which one do you think is the most baffling?
