Jewel Thief
Directed by the master of suspense thriller genre Vijay Anand, Jewel Thief is a movie that you make you keep guessing till the end.
Jewel Thief featured Dev Anand and Vajayanti Mala along with Ashok Kumar and it was directed by Dev Anand’s younger brother Vijay Anand. Vijay Anand is held as one of the greatest directors in India when it comes to suspense thriller movies. The movie starts with a piece of news that there is a jewel thief in the city who is robbing people of their jewelry and the police is not able to find his identity. Dev Anand works in a jewelry shop and one day he meets a girl who says he is her fiancé. She came to Bombay to search for her fiancé along with her brother. The doppelganger of Dev Anand is one of the prime suspects of recent thefts of jewelry in the city. The movie had some great music by S.D Burman and the climax is something you would have never guessed.
Kaun
Kaun is a movie directed by Ramgopal Varma and the whole movie had only three characters and was shot inside a home.
A girl alone in her house, a serial killer on run, and two uninvited guests. The premise sets you up for a nerve-wracking thriller movie. Kaun was directed by Ramgopal Varma when he used to be a good director and the script was by Anurag Kashyap, a famed director today. The movie featured Urmila, ManojBajpai, and Sushant Singh, and the whole movie is shot inside a house and it’s a story of just a night. If you still have not seen it, you are missing something great. Watch it as soon as possible.
Kaante
Six people, one bank robbery and an informer among them, Kaante is a thriller movie that will hook you up till the climax.
Sanjay Gupta directed Kaante which was a remake of Quentin Tarantino’s famous crime caper, Reservoir Dogs and many beliefs that Kaante is better than the original. Reservoir Dogs had been remade many times and the director of the original Tarantino himself said that he loved Kaante and it’s one of the best remakes of his movie. The movie tells the story of six gangsters in Los Angeles, the USA who plans to rob a bank and post robbery which went bad, they discover that there is an informer among them. Sounds interesting? Yes but the movie is more interesting. The movie had an ensemble cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Suneil Shetty, Kumar Gaurav, Lucky Ali, and Mahesh Manjrekar.
Kahani
Kahani directed by Sujoy Ghosh and starring VidyaBalan is a suspensethriller movie about a pregnant woman who is searching for her lost husband.
Kahani was a game-changer in the sense that it had no big actor in lead, a woman playing the central character and still becoming a super hit movie. Kahani tells the story of VidyaBagchi played brilliantly by VidyaBalan who is in search of her husband who disappeared after coming to Kolkata for official reasons. Vidya was pregnant but still, she tries to solve the mystery behind the sudden disappearance of her husband. The movie became a sleeper hit that year and was acclaimed by both critics and the audience alike.
Gupt
Gupt was the second movie of Bobby Deol and it starred Manisha Koirala and Kajol opposite him.
From the time it was released, the climax of the movie had people falling up from their chairs because of the revelation of the killer. Directed by Rajiv Mehra, no list about suspense thriller movies is complete without Gupt. In the movie, Bobby Deol plays the stepson of a big politician who later gets murdered and all doubt is on Bobby Deol because they didn’t have a good relationship, Manisha Koirala plays his love interest and Kajol is his friend secretly in love with him.
