Five ways to bond with your new pet

We bring you some fun ideas to bond with your pet in the best way

If you have decided to be a pet parent, you will easily understand the importance of forging a bond with them. Once you get a pet, they are like family members and they are supposed to be valued and loved. They become a source of joy as well when they keep staying by your side after a tough day at work.

However, you need to have a strong bond with your pet in order to make them feel wanted. Else the pet and the owner might end up having emotional indifference.

So we bring you five fun ways to connect with them:

Play Indoor Parkour

For those of you who don’t know, Parkour is a fun, non-competitive sport where your pet needs to navigate physical obstacles. For instance, it will teach your pet to interact with the objects in their environment by going around, jumping over, climbing under, and on various objects. You can end up rewarding your pet for their agility.

Choose Enriching Toys

When it comes to pet enrichment products, you can get anything from chews and puzzles to food toys. Try and understand what your pet likes and doesn’t like. Get a new food puzzle and see if your dog reacts to it. If they are happy and playing, great. However, if you see any form of anger or frustration, remove the puzzle but always give them something tasty as a treat.

Engage Your Pet's Natural Behaviors

You can engage into your pet’s natural stalking and chasing instincts by using a flirt pole. Swing it around with a toy at the end and let your pet catch it. Teach your pet to ‘drop it’ when asked and then ‘take it’. This will help in your pet’s impulse control, and at the same time, be engaging for both of you.

Put Your Pet to Work

Do not let your pet’s natural scavenger and foraging abilities in their hunt for food go away. Keep your area in the house full of smelly food, hide them in boxes and let your pet search for it. You will see their happiness as they enjoy using their brain and natural senses to problem solve. You can make it more challenging by placing the high-value treats around your house.

Tap into the Power of Touch

What pet doesn’t appreciate a soft, gentle massage? It is more like a stress relief for them and lowers blood pressure. You will eventually find their favorite spots on your particular pets and seeing them relax will relax you too.
