Foods that may increase your appetite naturally

If you're experiencing a loss of appetite, consider including these foods in your diet in order to get rid of this condition.

A poor appetite is very frustrating and can lead you to several health issues including weight loss, malnutrition, weakness, lightheadedness etc. While you can follow several tips to fight this problem, there are also some foods which help increasingthe appetite and leave you hungry.

Low-fat Yogurt: Yogurt is a super healthy food which you can have anytime of the day. As low-fat yogurt is rich in carbohydrates and low in fat, consuming this will ultimately make you crave for more foods. You can add fruits and nuts to the yogurt for additional benefits.

Fruit Juice: The process of preparing juice expels the fiber from it. So, the fruit juice remains low in fiber and high in calories. This causes a quick spike in your blood sugar level and then crash, leaving you hungrier.

Salty Snacks: While we don't recommend eating salty snacks as most of them are unhealthy, you can have them while experiencing a loss of appetite. These foods are excessively high in sodium which dehydrates the body and leaves you craving for more. Also, as it's low in protein/fiber and high in carbohydrates, consuming this significantly increases hunger and thirst in your body.

White Pasta: As white pasta contains no fiber; it creates a lack of fullness in your body. Also, its high carbohydrates content causes a spike of blood sugar and then crash, leaving you hungrier. Add a little amount of ketchup to it as it's high in fructose corn syrup (HFCS) which helps in increasing appetite.

Muffins: Muffins are loaded with sugar, fat and refined white flour. These delicious foods provide you a lot of calories and their excess sugar content gets digested quickly, leaving you crave for more foods.

Granola Bars: Granola Bars lack from protein which keeps you full. Also, most of them are made of sugar and hydrogenated oils that trigger your appetite and makes you hungry.

Herbs and Spices: Some herbs and spices can turn a boring food into a delicious one. Add herbs and spices to your favourite dishes and the superb flavour and smell might stimulate your appetite naturally. For best result, try cinnamon, thyme, rosemary, basil etc.

Soda: The sweet flavours of soda trigger your brain to signal the appetite hormones, which result in increasing the appetite. Also, it makes you hungrier by providing a lot of calories to the body. But don't drink too much soda as it's harmful for your health.

The list also includes foods such as cheese, sugary cereals, refined grains, artificial sweeteners etc. While they are good for triggering appetite, don't consume too much as most of them are considered as unhealthy.
