As per a list published by Forbes, the team of Mumbai Indians is worth $1.3 billion US dollars

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the most-watched domestic cricket leagues in the world. In fact, in the eyes of many spectators, the IPL is not a cricket league, but a festival of grandeur. From legendary cricketers to brilliant stadiums, the organising body of IPL, the sponsors and the teams put millions of Indian rupees to make the IPL one of the most expensive sports tournaments on the planet.

Recently, renowned American magazine Forbes released a list of the most valuable IPL teams of 2022. In the following paragraphs, we have listed the top ones. Not to forget, Forbes also tweeted: Franchise values in the world’s top cricket league are surging, outpacing the growth in even the NFL and the NBA. 

Mumbai Indians worth 1.3 billion US dollars

The ongoing season of IPL is Mumbai Indians’ worst outing since the inception of the tournament in 2009. So far, the team has lost all the eight games they have played and is sitting at the bottom of the table. However, irrespective of all defeats, Mumbai Indians is the most valuable team in IPL 2022 with a valuation of 1.3 billion US dollars.

The second spot is held by Chennai 

After Mumbai Indians, the second most successful team in the history of the Indian Premier League is Chennai-based Chennai Super Kings. Over the years, the team has tasted immense success under the leadership of captain cool Mahendra Singh Dhoni. As of 2022, the Chennai Super Kings has a valuation worth 1.15 billion US dollars.

Shahrukh Khan’s team owns the third place

Bollywood’s Badshah Shahrukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders own third place with a valuation of 1.1 billion US dollars. Since 2009, the team has picked up two IPL trophies and has an operating income of 14.1 million US dollars along with a revenue of around 41.2 million US dollars. Given Khan’s popularity, the team enjoys a massive fanbase not merely in India but also in foreign countries.

Lucknow Super Giants, the new kid on the block

2022 is the debut season for the newly-formed team of Lucknow Super Giants owned by the famous RP-Sanjeev Goenka Group. The team is worth 1.075 billion US dollars and at the moment; they are placed fourth on the IPL table. Given the team’s performance, an appearance in the semi-final round is expected from KL Rahul’s captaincy.
