‘Gangster’ (2006) 

‘Gangster ‘was the debut movie of Kangana Ranaut and it was produced by Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt while Anurag Basu directed the movie. 

Kangana Ranaut made her debut in 2006 with the movie ‘Gangster’ opposite Shiney Ahuja and Emraan Hashmi. She played the role of a girlfriend of a gangster (Shiney Ahuja) and later falls for Aakash (Emran Hashmi). The movie was a big success and Kangana Ranaut won Filmfare Award for Best Debut (Female) for her performance.

‘Fashion’ (2008)

Kangana Ranaut won her first National Award for the 2008 movie ‘Fashion’ for Best Actress in a supporting role. 

‘Fashion’, directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, shows the underbelly of the modelling world. In the film, Kangana Ranaut was in a supporting role while Priyanka Chopra played the lead. The character played by Kangana explores the journey of a supermodel, who is a drug addict and the pain and agony that comes with the field of modelling. Kangana’s outstanding performance made people aware of her acting abilities and she got lots of applause for it.

‘Tanu Weds Manu’ (2011)

‘Tanu Weds Manu’ was a romantic drama movie that was released in 2011. It had R. Madhavan opposite her in the main lead and Anand L Rai directed the movie. 

‘Tanu Weds Manu’ is the movie that cemented Kangana Ranaut’s position as a bankable actress. R. Madhavan was the male lead of the movie while Jimmy Sheirgil and Deepak Dobriyal were in supporting roles. Kangana effortlessly played the character of free-spirited girl Tanu, who is torn between her feelings for her boyfriend Raja Mishra, played by Jimmy Sheirgil, and NRI Doctor Manu played by R. Madhavan. She played a flawed but real character in the film and got lots of critical acclaim for her performance.

‘Queen’ (2014)

‘Queen’ was a 2014 movie directed by Vikas Bhal and Kangana played the character of a typical middle-class girl named Rani whose life changes when her fiancé breaks their marriage. 

‘Queen’ can be termed as a milestone in Kangana’s career for which she won her first main actress National Award. The movie revolves around a girl taking a solo trip in Europe after her marriage gets cancelled because the groom decided not to marry her. The journey makes her aware of herself as she self-discovers the real her behind the simple Delhi girl Rani Mehra. The movie was both a critical and box office success.

‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ (2015)

‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ was the sequel to the 2011 movie ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ and shows the life of Tanu and Manu after five years of their marriage.

This 2015 sequel to ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ had Kangana in a double role, first as Tanu and second as Datto, a college-going Haryanvi athlete, who is a look alike of Tanu. The marriage of Tanu and Manu goes through a rough patch and Tanu returns to India. Manu also comes to India and meets Datto, who looks the same as Tanu and he falls for her. The movie follows the events after Tanu gets to know about it. Kangana gave a flawless performance in the movie, both as Tanu and Datto.
