A look at web debuts that stole the limelight one project at a time.

While 2020 wasn’t a great year for the showbiz industry in terms of box office collections and theatrical releases, OTT certainly gained massive popularity, all thanks to several web films and series with fantastic content. Well, 2020 was certainly the year of the web, and there have been debuts that claimed the spotlight, one episode/film at a time.

Pratik Gandhi - Scam 1992

You can certainly give the best debut of the year award to Pratik Gandhi for his class act in Scam 1992, based on the late Dalal street broker Harshad Mehta. It streamed on SONYLIV, and the actor wowed us all with his performance in addition to the Gujarati touch to his Hindi. Pratik rightly enacted Harshad’s pompousness and delivered the right punches at the right time.

Masaba Gupta - Masaba Masaba

We all know Masaba Gupta and her fashion designing career. However, it was her debut in Netflix show Masaba Masaba - loosely based on her life that won our hearts. She even shared the screen with her actress-mother Neena Gupta on the show.

 Akansha Ranjan Kapoor - Gurfateh Pirzada - Guilty 

Akansha Ranjan Kapoor and Gurfateh Pirzada managed to keep us hooked with their performances in Kiara Advani's Netflix film Guilty. With Akansha playing Tanu and Gurfateh seen as VJ, they did not let the spotlight go away from them and made the right noise with the Dharma venture.

Karan Tacker - Special Ops

Television's favourite boy Karan Tacker debuted on OTT with Neeraj Pandey's Hotstar Special show Special Ops. Karan, as Farooq Ali was a treat to the eyes as he stole the frame in every performance as one of the main espionage officers. Despite having stars like Kay Kay Menon and Divya Dutta around, he shone bright.

Abhishek Bachchan - Breathe: Into The Shadows

The actor forayed into the digital space with Amazon Prime’s show, and his search for his daughter along with his split personality act took everyone by surprise in a rather good way.

Bobby Deol - Aashram

While Bobby Deol made his web debut with Netflix film Class Of '83, it was his performance as a fake Godman Kashipur Waale Baba Nirala aka Monty in Prakash Jha's Aashram that got praise from all corners.

Sushmita Sen - Aarya 

Sushmita Sen totally made the best comeback as she starred in Disney+Hotstar's Aarya, wherein she played the fierce matriarch Aarya who goes to any extent to protect her family. With her power, her elegance and brilliant act, Sushmita floored everyone and how.
