Got him: Indians with ODI hat-tricks

With just 49 hat-tricks recorded in ODI cricket till now, it is a big occasion whenever a bowler picks up three wickets off as many deliveries to change the face of the game.

Indian bowlers have picked-up five hat-tricks in ODI cricket, with Kuldeep Yadav registering the feat twice. Here's listing all of them:

Chetan Sharma

In a World Cup match between India and New Zealand in 1987, Chetan Sharma became the first Indian bowler to take a hat-trick in ODI cricket. Sharma registered the record in India's group stage match against New Zealand in the 1987 World Cup.

All began when Sharma's delivery crashed into Ken Rutherford's middle stump. The Haryana medium-pacer then dismissed Ian Smith for a golden duck on the very next ball. With the ball going between the legs of Ewen Chatfield's to rock back his leg stump, Sharma completed the hat-trick.

Kapil Dev

The first Indian pacer to make a big mark on the international stage, Kapil Dev pocketed a hat-trick against Sri Lanka in the 1991 Asia Cup final. Dev became the second Indian bowler to take a hat-trick in ODI cricket with his exploits at the Eden Gardens in 1991.

To begin with, Dev had Roshan Mahanama caught behind on the last ball of the 38th over. On the first delivery of Kapil's next over, Sanath Jayasuriya was caught by Sanjay Manjrekar, followed by Rumesh Ratnayake's LBW. Kapil ended with figures of 4/31 from his 9 overs.

Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep Yadav became the first and the only Indian spinner to bag a hat-trick in ODI cricket in the 2nd ODI on the Australia tour to India in 2017. Incidentally, this match was also held at the Eden Gardens.

Chasing a modest total, Australia were 148/5 after 32 overs, with 105 runs required off the remaining 108 balls. The match could have gone either way, but Kuldeep killed the chase by spinning a web.

The left-arm wrist-spinner flummoxed Matthew Wade and bowled him off the inside edge. Ashton Agar then missed a full toss to be trapped in front of the sticks off the next ball. Pat Cummins was caught behind by MS Dhoni off a googly to hand Kuldeep the hat-trick.

Yadav became the first Indian bowler to pick up two hat-tricks in ODI cricket when he repeated his heroics against West Indies with the dismissals of Shai Hope, Jason Holder and Alzarri Joseph.

Mohammed Shami

Shami picked up a hat-trick against Afghanistan in the 2019 World Cup. The pacer got the better of Mohammad Nabi, Aftab Alam and Mujeeb Ur Rahman off back-to-back balls in the last over, to win a close game for India.
