A quick glimpse of the Grom will force anyone to think it’s a scooter. Get a little closer and it’s actually a motorcycle underneath the chassis

When it comes to motorcycles, humans prefer the bigger ones. However, they are not meant or are not feasible for everybody. Someone who is learning to ride should not handle a heavy 150cc or 200cc motorcycle. Likewise, an old citizen should have access to a motorcycle that is light in weight and can be comfortably dealt with in traffic. Hence, Honda launched the Grom, which is also acknowledged as the MSX 125.

Dimensions

What makes the Grom a special vehicle is its dimensions. The moped Navi from Honda is small and compared to the Navi, the Grom is even smaller. With a shorter wheel base of 1,200mm and a weight of 101 kgs, the Grom is one of the smallest motorcycles on the planet. Being a compact motorcycle, the fuel tank of the Grom is identical to a scooter and can carry 5.5 litres of fuel only. Not to mention, the motorcycle is a pleasant option for anyone with lesser height since the seat height of the Grom is only 762 mm.

Engine

The Grom is designed to target teens or old citizens due to which it is decorated with a light less-powered 2-valve, air-cooled, single-cylinder, fuel-injected 124cc engine. The motor can develop a peak power of 9.7hp at 7,000rpm and a top torque of 10.9Nm at 5,500rpm mated to a 4-speed gearbox.

Electronics

It may be a small motorcycle, but Honda has spared no expense by installing almost every electronic aid that a regular motorcycle carries. The Grom features LED headlight and taillight units along with a dashboard that incorporates a speedometer, trip meter and fuel gauge. For safety, the Grom offers an ABS.

Chassis, brakes and suspension

The Grom’s frame is a steel mono-backbone chassis with 31mm USD fork on the front and a monoshock at the rear. On the front, the Grom features 120/70-12 fat tyre and a 130/70-12 on the rear. The braking duties are handled by disc on both ends.

A sudden peek at the Grom will make anyone think it’s a scooter. But this lengthy note of features confirms that it’s literally a motorcycle.
