Honda RC213V-S: Most Expensive Japanese Motorcycle Ever Auctioned

At 2,38,943 US dollars, the auctioned Honda RC213V-S became the most expensive auctioned Japanese motorcycle in the world

Better late than never, in November 2021, a Honda RC213V-S became the most expensive auctioned Japanese motorcycle in the world when it was sold at a staggering 2,38,943 US dollars (27.1 million Japanese Yen). The RC213V-S broke the record of the 1968 Honda CB750 prototype that was sold at 2,21,600 US dollars in 2018. Not to forget, in 1968, Honda only made four CB750 prototypes.

Why is the Honda RC213V-S a special motorcycle?

The auctioned Honda RC213V-S motorcycle is based on the MotoGP RC213V motorcycle that was first introduced in 2014. The motorcycle helped Honda win seven Constructors’ championship titles and has been used by champion rider Marc Marquez to win six Riders’ championships. Using the RC213V, Marquez has picked up 59 wins with 99 podiums in 142 races.

Power figures of the street-version auctioned motorcycle

The street-version auctioned Honda RC213V-S is powered by a 999cc, DOHC, V4, four-valves-per-cylinder that makes a peak power of 157bhp at 11,000rpm and a maximum torque figure of 102Nm. Not to forget, one can tweak and increase the power figures of the motorcycle with the help of a Power kit that generates 212bhp at 13,000rpm and 118Nm at 10,500rpm.

More about the power kit and the motorcycle’s shared DNA

As per the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer, the auctioned Honda RC213V-S street-legal version shares a large portion of its DNA with the MotoGP version; 80 per cent, to be precise. More about the power kit, as per the company, when the power kit is attached to the motorcycle, the rev limiter gets increased from 12,000rpm to 14,000rpm. Not to forget, the motorcycle is mated to a six-speed sequential manual gearbox.

Unused parts, HRC kit

What makes the motorcycle further special is the availability of the optional HRC kit that includes unused race ECU, a full titanium exhaust system, stronger front brake pads, race-spec quick-shift, a data logger, remote adjuster, thermostat set, sprocket set, lower cowl drain cap, harness modification set and more; all from fresh, unopened boxes.

Only 213 has been made so far, used by Marquez

The auctioned RC213V-S is one of the 213 models that Honda has made until now and therefore, the RC213V-S is an extremely special motorcycle. Last but not the least, Marquez used the auctioned model for training purposes post one of his injuries.
