How do social robots interact with humans?

Technological advancement and its application are not news anymore.

We live in an era where robots aren’t a theory but are getting updated to replace human resources in different areas. That’s right! Today, we have Humanoid Social Robots (HSRs) designed to precisely resemble human behaviour, take digital/physical form, and interact with us. However, the basic concept about these humanoid robots starts and ends with their ability to imitate humans. Thus, Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) gets the priority.

The present-day robots use various analogue sensors to meet the HRI requirements. Moreover, these robots are well-equipped with several interactivity tools for artificial senses and somewhat visible responses. Here, artificial intelligence backs the system for data processing, response and storage purpose. Therefore, let us discuss the ways social robots interact with humans.

Humanoid robots got installed with artificial senses- eyes, ears and skin.

Out of the vital sense organs in humans, modernized robots got three. Just as in humans, these sense organs help a robot detect the different happenings in its physical surroundings.

Human Robots got equipped with high-tech digital camerasto receive images from their environment. These images serve as vital data for processing and identifying different information about the surroundings. In other words, with the help of digital cameras, social robots took their first step to imitate and interact with humans.

With the help of pre-installed integral microphones, social robots can receive audio data. Later, these data get converted to digital audio using the onboard Analog-to-Digital converters (ADCs) and processed into the programs. Finally, they get programmed to identify sounds regarding Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release envelopes.

Today’s advanced robots got fitted with outer skinto get human-like sensitivity. The material of this artificial skin is sensitive to pressure and electricity. As a result, it allows them to detect and respond to human touch as programmed.

Humanoid robots got programmed to share perceptible responses. The robot programmers come up with an idea to collect raw data from its visual, sonic and tactile senses, process it, and control its behaviours accordingly. There are multiple ways to program them to behave like humans. Hence, artificial intelligence accompanies the entire process. Today, these robots provide appropriate responses for every sonic, environmental or mechanical action.

Lastly, these Humanoid robots get designed and styled for giving accurate resemblance. It requires lots of hard work and determination to build a human in laboratories. Therefore, these robots are designed to isolate the technical basics and other equipment from the rest of the world. If you remember Chitti from the movie Robot, you can understand the idea behind its design and styling.
