How India fares when Ravindra Jadeja fires

Ravindra Jadeja has struck 13 half centuries in ODIs, but India have lost 10 of these matches. When Jadeja scores an ODI half-century:

Won matches - 2 Lost matches - 10 Tied matches - 1

It has only been now that Ravindra Jadeja has established himself in all the three formats. He was dropped from the Indian team after the 2017 Champions Trophy but has been successful in making a comeback to white ball cricket as well.

Jadeja had a good start to his International career but there was a period of around one and half years before India's tour of England in 2018 when the all-rounder was neither part of the test or the ODI playing XI.

However, the gun fielder has now left that behind him and has come a long way. He has worked on his power hitting and has become a lot more consistent with the bat.

"Honestly, those one-and-a-half years just before 2018 were filled with sleepless nights. Through that phase, I remember I would be up till 4-5 am. I would be thinking about what to do, how am I going to bounce back? I couldn’t sleep. I was in the Test squad but not playing as we played a lot overseas. I wasn’t playing ODIs. I wasn’t playing domestic too as I would be travelling with the Indian team though not playing. I wasn’t getting any opportunity to prove myself. I would keep thinking about how I am going to come back."

"That Test changed everything for me. My performance, my confidence, everything. When you score in English conditions against the best bowling attack, it greatly impacts your confidence. It makes you feel your technique is good enough to score anywhere in the world. Later, Hardik Pandya got injured and I made my ODI comeback. From then on, my game has been going well, touchwood"

In recent times, Jadeja has played many important knocks for India in ODI cricket. The all-rounder has struck close to 2500 runs from 168 matches at an average of 22.58 in ODIs with 13 half centuries and the best of 87.

Unfortunately for him, India seldom go on to win when he shines with the bat. The most heartbreaking example of that arrived in the semi final of the 2019 ODI World Cup against New Zealand. Batting at number 8, Jaddu struck 77 off 59 deliveries and had a sensational partnership with MS Dhoni after the Indian top order collapsed, but to no avail.
