How Thailand Performed at the Paralympics 2021?

Some sports personnel from Thailand have stepped up and won a few medals for the country

The Summer Olympics are over, but that was not the only major athletic competition that took place in 2021. Apart from the Summer Olympics, another athletic competition was held this year but as usual, it gained little limelight. We are talking about the Paralympics in which individuals with physical disabilities take part in several athletic events.

From Thailand, several sports individuals took part in the tournament. We cannot call Thailand’s performance an excellent one. However, some individuals rose to the occasion and won a few medals. Who are they? Let us give you a brief about those legendary individuals who deserve all the limelight.

Putaret Khongrak- A wheelchair racer by profession, Khongrak won the bronze medal in the men’s 5,000 metres T54 race. The racer was up against his fellow Thailand racer Jay Putaret who grabbed the gold medal in the same event in 2016. However, this year, the gold medal was secured by Swiss national Marcel Hug whereas the silver medal was taken by Canada’s Brent Lakatos. Not much information is available about Khongrak, which is genuinely sad because the man deserves much more recognition for his heroic deeds at the Paralympics.

Rungroj Thainiyom- Rungroj Thainiyom is the second sports individual from Thailand who secured Thailand’s second bronze medal in 2021 at the Paralympics. Thainiyom is a legend of the game and the game he plays is table tennis. The man lost to Peter Rosenmeier of Denmark with a set of 8-11, 7-11, 13-11, and 5-11 in the semi-finals. This is not the first time the player has won a medal at the Paralympics. He won a bronze medal in 2016 and in 2012; he picked up a gold. These are the reasons why is being hailed a legend by us. Sadly, not much information is available on the internet about this gem from Thailand.

Saisunee Jana- From Thailand, it was not only the men who grabbed medals. In fact, Thailand’s first medal at the Paralympics 2021 was won by wheelchair fencer Saisunee Jana. Jana won the bronze medal by defeating China’s Zhou Jingjing with a point count of 15-8. Last but not least, this is the sixth medal picked up by Jana because she won medals in 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016.
