How to allergy-proof your home

It takes little work every day to keep a healthy allergy-free home.

Nothing ruins a good day like sneezing fits and itchy eyes. Keeping your living space an allergy-free zone doesn't have to be a daunting task. With a few simple adjustments and clever tricks, you'll be able to create a healthy allergy free home

Say goodbye to runny noses and sneezing with these simple tips.

Keep it clean

This goes without saying. Dust, vacuum, and mop floors regularly, and pay attention to areas where allergens tend to accumulate, such as carpets, rugs, upholstery, and curtains.

Maintain low humidity

High humidity can encourage the growth of mold and dust mites. Keep your home's humidity level below 50% by using dehumidifiers.

Use allergen-proof bedding

Cover your pillows, mattresses, and box springs with dust mite-proof covers. These covers are made of tightly woven fabric and help prevent dust mites from infiltrating your bedding.

Wash bedding regularly

Wash your sheets, pillowcases, and blankets in hot water to kill dust mites and remove allergens. It is equally important to dry them thoroughly before using them.

Remove carpets and rugs

Carpets and rugs can harbor dust mites, pet dander, and other allergens. Consider replacing them with hardwood, laminate, or tile flooring, which are easier to clean. If removing carpets is not possible, vacuum them regularly with a HEPA-filtered vacuum cleaner.

Control pet dander

If you have pets, it is always wise to keep them off beds (that means no sleeping with your cat), especially if you are really allergic.  It is equally important to regularly groom your pets, including bathing and brushing them.

Use air purifiers

High-quality air purifiers with HEPA filters can help remove airborne allergens, such as pollen, dust mites, and pet dander. Placing them in the rooms where you spend the most time, such as bedrooms and living areas, so the rooms are always allergy free.

Install proper ventilation

Use exhaust fans in kitchens and bathrooms to remove excess moisture and minimize mold growth. Additionally, open windows whenever possible to let fresh air circulate.

Keep windows closed

While it's essential to ventilate your home, keep windows closed during high pollen seasons.

Avoid strong scents and chemicals

Those room sprays and room freshener make home smell nicer, they can also make your allergies act up.  Opt for fragrance-free or hypoallergenic alternatives.

Regularly replace air filters

Check and replace the filters in your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system according to the manufacturer's recommendations. This helps trap allergens and keeps the air clean.
