How to practice work-life balance amidst a heavy work schedule

Do you also feel that work-life balance is just a phrase to use and is actually not achievable?

If you, just like many others, have a negative notion about your work and are of the thought that no job can actually offer a work-life balance, then you are partially incorrect. Having flexibility in work so that you can balance both your work and your personal life adequately is not just the responsibility of your employer but of you as well. You are equally required to customise your daily work and other stuff in your personal life in a manner that you get enough time for both. If you are confused about how you can help yourself in improving your work-life balance, then stay with us throughout this article to learn the secrets.

Take breaks

If you work continuously for 8-9 hours without taking breaks, it is obvious that after your work, you will end up feeling irritated and frustrated, and this will not allow you to spend some good after-work time with your family/friends. So, whether it is work-from-home or work-from-office, make sure to take breaks in between for 10-15 minutes. This will reduce stress and keep you motivated to work. Also, you will feel less tired after all day’s work, and you can devote time to your family/friends without staying irritated.

Start saying ‘No’

The art of saying no is one of the soft skills that not many people are proficient in. Once you can prioritize your work and give importance only to the ones that are of priority, you will learn to say no to work that, even if you do not take it up, will not cause any harm. We often tend to accept work at odd hours to show our dedication, but that’s not how you prove your efficiency. If you have to balance your work and life, you have to say no odd-hour works and extra burdens. This way, you can free up time and energy and maintain a balance.

Prioritize health

In order to prove that we are dedicated employees and to get that one appraisal, we often neglect our health. The first step in improving work-life balance is giving importance to health. Taking too much work will lead you to fall ill, and both your dedication and hard will no longer matter during times of appraisal. So, we suggest, you work only as much as your body permits and keep aside a few hours for exercise and meditation. We hope you practice ‘Health is Wealth’.

Make space for investing in relations

Do not indulge yourself so much in work that you forget why in the first place, you are earning all the money. It’s, of course, for your family/friends, and so we want you to free up some space in between your heavy schedule and go out with your family/friends for an outing or a movie, and also ensure that you at least spend your weekends with them. This way, you can remain motivated for work when you know at the back of your mind that you can give equal time to your family and work.

So, let us not blame our employers for not giving us enough time, but rather follow these tips to improve our work-life-balance.
