How to set up a work station at home?

Whether you are working from home for the first time or a work-from-home veteran, proper workstation set up is necessary for all to work comfortably. Here’s a checklist for setting up a workstation at home.

Working from home is becoming more prevalent these days, offering more convenience and fewer hassles. It saves you a lot of time and money that you spend on your daily commute to your office or workspace.

Our office workspace is equipped with all the things that we need from a dedicated workstation to tech equipment, internet connectivity & storage space.

If you are planning to begin remote working, then you need to set up everything on your own.

We have listed a few necessary things that you need to consider for setting up a comfortable & efficient workstation at your home.

Select your workspace

Initially, to set up your workspace, you need to find the right place that is quiet and free from any distraction. It will be great if you can get a separate room or corner for your workspace. If you are working on a bench or dining table, try to manage your time and work accordingly. We strictly not recommend working on a couch or bed.

Consider lighting & ventilation

In the home office setup, proper lighting and ventilation play a key role in your productivity during work. The light should not be too dim or too harsh that can cause eye fatigue easily. Your workspace should be adequately ventilated with optimum temperature to ensure maximum productivity.

Try to set up your workspace in the corner of your home that receives natural lighting to keep you energetic throughout the day.

Opt for comfortable furniture

Your home office desk should have enough space to occupy all your daily essentials like laptop, writing pad, stationary, etc. The desk and chair should be placed at a comfortable height to avoid any uncomfortable sitting postures that may cause pain in the neck and back.

While setting up your furniture, ensure that when you sit on the chair, your joints are rightly aligned at 90 degrees. Your ankles, hips, knees and elbows all should be aligned at a 90-degree angle. Keep your back straight, and your feet should touch the floor.

Choose the right office gear

All necessary equipment and devices are a must-have to organize your home workspace. Things that you need to have are-

1) Laptop, computer, monitor, mouse, keyboard, USB, headphones, etc. are some of the basic things required to begin working from home. Ensure that your monitor or screen is placed at an arm’s length from you and its top is at your eye level.

2) Mobile phones for communicating with our clients & colleagues. Download software applications for video conferencing, team meetings and discussions.

3) Uninterrupted internet connectivity

4) Stationery items like writing pad, paper, pen, highlighter, organizer, etc

Storage space for essentials

You should have a storage space near your workspace to keep all the essential things and to keep your space clutter-free.

Follow this home workspace checklist, and set up your own according to space, lighting conditions, ventilation and other necessities. To keep working without any discomfort, stay hydrated, avoid prolonged sitting hours, do some stretching to relax your muscles and take movement breaks every half an hour to give some rest to your body.
