How to start living in the moment

The secret to a healthy body and mind is to not sulk about the past and worry too much about the future. Consciously living in the present means you enjoy what’s happening now and appreciate everything and everyone around you. Here are some great tips to live in the moment.

Acknowledge small things in your life

When you notice small things around you and try to be thankful to them, you cultivate more positive experiences and start living in the present. Your general well-being and mood are improved dramatically when you pay attention to things such as listening to music, walking in the garden, playing with your dog, and so on. All of such thingsmake you aware of the current moment.

 Smile consciously

It has been scientifically proven that smiling enhances your happiness level, makes you optimistic and hopeful. All you need to do is look in the mirror and smile; when you intentionally do it, you will soon realize it happening habitually. Smiling helps you appreciate life in the present moment and keeps your mood elevated.

 Do random acts of kindness

When you help someone, it brings happiness to their as well as your face and you register that moment as a positive memory. These spontaneous acts of kindness greatly add to your quality of daily life and help you live in the moment. Help someone cross the road, offer your umbrella to someone in the rain, assist a struggling old lady in a grocery shop, such acts improve the moment for someone else and you.

 Stop tormenting yourself

If you worry all the time about tomorrow, you will never be able to appreciate the present. Most of the negative things we predict about tomorrow never happen actually, and even if they were to happen you could do nothing to stop or change it. So why worry and ruin your present?

Be thankful

The best way to be in the moment is to take stock of what all is perfect in your life and feel thankful for it. When your boss gives you more work, be thankful; acknowledge that you have a job that puts food on the table for your family and lets you grow. Look around, express gratitude, and live the moment.

Be a minimalist

Possessions tie you up with the past! When you plan to be a minimalist, you start dumping excess items that are like baggage from the past, and once the past losses the power, you start living in the present.

Living in the moment is a key ingredient in a blissful life.
