With the whole lorry of words like “let’s chill”, “Hang out”, you can’t really tell if you are out on a date or are just chilling. Up until two decades back, it was quite simple. You like a person, You ask them out for a pretentious cup of coffee or for a fancy dinner and it was a date.

With new age technologies, social media, it is easy to contact someone. You can virtually shoot your shot. But the whole thing gets too ambiguous. The cute friend of friend you met at your besties birthday party asked if you wanted to see the new Marvel movie with them. The colleague who asked you if you want to grab lunch. The nerdy neighbour inviting you to go shopping together to save gas. It is not uncommon to think of these instances as a date.

If it’s a one-on-one hangout, it is a date. If they ask you if they can have a friend join you guys, it is more of a hangout. If there’s another couple who is joining you, you are on a double date.

The time you were asked out

Was your meeting planned spontaneously cause you both were free and wanted to hang out? Then its probably a hangout. If there was a scheduling involved, like a few days in advance, it is most likely a date.

Were they persistent?

Persistent in not a toxic way but more of a way to make this meet-up happened. Supposedly you are not free for the suggested meet-up, they make sure to reschedule it on a time that’s more convenient for you. If you sense they are putting effort to make the meet up possible and comfortable for you, it might be a date.

Body language matters

Leaning closer and making eye contact are possible signs they are interested in it being a date. Even while walking, are you walking side by side and they take caution if you are falling behind, are real positive signs.
