Ideas of adding bright colours to home décor

Bring some smile to your face with the illuminating colours

There always comes a time while sitting in your house when you want to lighten up the place. Not merely by adding more lights but with the colours that will spur up the presence and character of the room. Another reason for adding colours to the room is that it attracts positivity and fills the heart with happiness. Apart from that, adding colours is like giving your house the cheapest makeover without having to make a hole in the pocket. But not just throwing whichever colour you like on the wall, there has to be a little bit of creativity involved that will also enhance the mood. Here are some ways of adding colour to your room.

Pick your favourite corner to colour it-up

Painting one wall of your living room in dark or soothing shades can bring about a huge change. While keeping the rest of the walls in a single colour, preferably white, look for an extra color to paint on the larger wall. Pick a bold and contrasting colour that is in sync with the décor of your living room or the fabric that you handpicked. If a bright colour doesn’t fit the jam, opt for a subtle colour but a bit darker tone than the rest of the walls. You can try colours such as lemon yellow, charcoal, light lime green, peach, kelly green splash, lilac, crisp white, mint green, khaki, coral, royal blue, sage green, steel blue-gray, white, marine blue, violet, marigold, cream, pistachio, and tangerine to name a few.

Bring in the colourful pillow effect

If painting the wall is not your jam, the next best way of adding colour is by throwing in some colorful cushions. Be it on the sofa in the living room or in your bedroom, cute little colourful cushions spur up the mood of the space. Try adding strategically placed toss pillows in solids, and patterns, combining velvet with cotton and linen, or a bag of mix and match patterns for an array of colours.

Change the bookshelves

While bookshelves are the most prized possession in most homes, they often lack colour. This is another corner of the home that can be worked on to bring in some colours. You can paint each shelf in different colours or paint just the interiors and exteriors of the shelves in contrasting colours. If that is a lot of work, just paint the interior walls back or any solid colour, as it will give more opportunities to decorate the shelves.
