Indian comic book superheroes that deserve a movie franchise of their own

Even though we got Krishh, Ra.One, Drona why not revive the superheroes that kept us glued to comic books in those growing up years.

Isn’t it disappointing that all superheroes are at service only in the United States? How come Indian superheroes don’t make it to the big screen giving an experience of a lifetime. Even when Marvel is becoming inclusive bringing in superheroes of all kinds of ethnicity, it is important Bollywood should diligently invest in the fantasy genre to revive the theatre-going experience.  And even though we got Krishh, Ra.One, Drona why not revive the superheroes that kept us glued to comic books in those growing-up years.

Shaktiman, the movie is one its way and now the hope has arisen that there are superheroes in the Indian comic-book universe who deserve their standalone or franchise.

Bheriya, the half-human, half-wolf, born 50,000 years ago

Bheriya, the jungle raj,is born as a crossbreed of wolves and humans where both the parts are always at loggerheads with each other. But due to the effects of Phobos and Mobos, the animal separates from his body, and Bheriya is left as a super-skilled human with many adventures.

Super Commando Dhruva, the superhero without superpowers

Dhruva is a trained acrobat who goes on commando-level training to avenge the death of his parents and eliminate evil from the world. He has the genius intellect and detective skills and can communicate with all sorts of birds and animals who help him in his missions.  His utility belt has destructive tools which help him to tackle goons.

Doga, the muscular superhero who wears a dog-mask

Suraj, who grows up to become Doga takes the charge of ending organized crime in his city. He makes psychic communication with dogs and teams up with other superheroes as well. He is not the conventional superhero, rather an anti-hero with a different approach to problems.

Shakti, the feminist icon who stands for every woman

Shakti is a hospital staff with an alter-ego. She stands up for women and anyone who dares harm a woman is immediately vanquished. She has divine powers that include traveling with the speed of light, using the third eye, and bending metal at her will. She is very similar to Marvel comics’ Thor who worked as a doctor Donald Blake.

Inspector Steel, the man-made of steel and invincible to weapons 

Inspector Steel is basically a cyborg with X-ray vision who is hell-bent on eradicating crime. His body was replaced by a mechanical body, but the mind is human. One of his arms doubles as a weapon. His body is resistant to any regular attack.
