Oscar is one such award function that garners not only a lot of attention but also has a certain prestige attached to it. All the films that make it to the final nominations of the award are considered to be amazing pieces of filmmaking and have been talked about for years. While India too submits films almost every year, sadly, only thrice have Indian films reached the final level of nominations. Apur Sansar (1959)

This classic Bengali masterpiece won several accolades but failed to reach the finale of the Oscar race, sadly. Directed by Satyajit Ray, the film features Soumitra Chatterjee and Sharmila Tagore. The film also won a nomination at the BAFTA’s that year!

Rang De Basanti (2006)

If there is one film that struck a close chord with all generations and made a huge mark in the Indian film industry, it has to be the Aamir Khan-starer Rang De Basanti. This revolution-themed film definitely deserved all the awards it received that year. It even got a cult status for the incredible acting, the songs and especially the script!

Court (2015)

These days regional films have been creating huge waves. The court is definitely one of the greatest examples of that. This Marathi film created a huge impact and won several awards and accolades for its great scriptwriting. Even if you do not understand Marathi, this is a film that you should not miss out on!

Newton (2017)

When it is Rajkummar Rao in a film, it has to be a great piece of art! This film is a very realistic showcase of the Indian election system and corruption in the country. The film will make you think and also make you laugh, creating a perfect blend of both! This film surely deserved a place in the Oscar nominations and worldwide spotlight.

One of the newest entries from India was Gully Boy, which talked about the local rap artists and their struggles and life journey. Starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, this film is not only a musical journey but also has a good story!
