Indian origin film director making headlines in the Hollywood

They have no boundaries, and neither does their subject and narrations

Filmmakers of great calibre and narration skills are slaying the screen in the West with their execution on screen. Hollywood has seen more than a dozen Indian-origin filmmakers bringing to screen subjects of impending discussion.

SonaliGulati

Indian American independent filmmaker Gulati has made several films that have been screened at over 500 film festivals across the globe. The filmmaker has also made several short films and feature-length documentary films. To her credit, she has the award-winning 2005 documentary film Nalini by Day, Nancy by Night which is based on the subject of business process outsourcing in India. Gulati’s other film, I AM, has won 14 awards.

MeeraMenon

Director, writer and editor, Menon’s directorial feature debut Farah Goes Bang got her recognition. The film that was screened at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival was awarded the inaugural Nora Ephron Prize by Tribeca and Vogue. Prior to that, in 2009, she wrote and directed the short film Mark in Argentina that narrated the story of a governor searching for his mistress in Argentina. Menon’s other films are female-driven Wall Street drama Equity, wrote and directed short film The Press Conference.

Tarsem Singh Dhandwar

This Indian director has not only worked on films but as directed music videos as well as commercials in Hollywood. Tarsem began his directional career with music videos such as Hold On by En Vogue, Sweet Lullaby by Deep Forest, and R.E.M.'s Losing My Religion, to name a few. It was with Tarsem's feature film directorial debut, The Cell, in 2000 starring Jennifer Lopez that the director got recognized in Hollywood. Of the many films that he has directed, few are The Fall, for which he was the screenwriter and producer, Immortals, Mirror Mirror, and Self/less.

Raj Amit Kumar

Indian origin filmmaker and writer is known for his socio-political drama Unfreedom, a film that talks about subjects of religious fundamentalism and violence against homosexuals. The film won a UFVA Faculty Screenwriting Award, apart from various International Awards.
