International Movies Inspired By True Events
Movies based on true events don’t have to worry about believability. Here are some of them
Where the Hollywood scriptwriters fail, reality continues to spin its designs. It, therefore, is only natural, that these scriptwriters, dip into the real to create the fictional sensation that the audience will warm up to. Over the years, quite a few of the blockbusters and critically acclaimed films were based on true events, like some of the following.
Lawrence of Arabia
Genre: Adventure / Drama
Director: David Lean
Year of release: 1962
A Welsh diplomat and military lieutenant, Thomas Edward Lawrence, go to the Arabian Peninsula to moderately assess an ally, Faisal, on the behest of Colonel Brighton. Once there, his own personal misgivings mirror with those of the proceedings that he finds himself in the midst of, not to say of his aspersions on his own personality. Over three and a half hours long, this true classic has its own stamp!
Into the Wild
Genre: Adventure / Drama
Director: Sean Penn
Year of release: 2007
One of Penn's most ambitious movies, it tells the story of the worldly relinquishment of Christopher McCandless, a star student and an elite athlete, who donated his entire savings of $24,000 to charity, soon after he graduated from Emory University, to follow his lifelong dream and subsequently hitchhiked to Alaska. Depiction of depression and upliftment fits so well in the portrayed spiritual journey of a subject, who is conflicted and riddled by troubles because of his uneasiness with the materialistic side of life, through the vast wilderness, the yearning to escape the statuettes of society to reach out for the transcendental experience.
The Imitation Game
Genre: Drama
Director: Morten Tyldum
Year of release: 2014
Based on the brilliance of Brit computer scientist, Alan Turing, who joined the national cryptography team and overcoming both mathematical and social difficulties, managed to intercept and interpret the arcane Enigma code, that the Germans were using to send their instructions as radio messages. Portrayed equally brilliantly by the Sherlock Holmes guy, Benedict Cumberbatch, who captured the genius of Turing who at the same time was difficult to walk with going to his superiority complex.
A Beautiful Mind
Genre: Drama / Romance
Director: Ron Howard
Year of release: 2001
Guess, geniuses make for great movies. Here's one more - this one is about John Forbes Nash Jr, a mathematical prodigy. Being gifted is not all that it is made out to be. The nuanced acting by Russell Crowe drives home this well researched, socially and emotionally inclusive movie.
