Invincible Azzurri: 30 Games, Zero Defeats

The last time Italy won 30 games straight was under the managerial ship of Vittorio Pozzo from 1935 to 1939

At the present moment, two of the best football tournaments are taking place in two different places on earth. In the European continent, the Euro Cup is being held, whereas, in South America, the Copa America is being conducted. The Euro Cup is on fire with numerous teams producing phenomenal performances. However, our focus in this article is on Italy; a team that has won 30 consecutive games. Known as the Azurris, the Italian team has been on fire in the past few months.

Under the guidance of manager Roberto Mancini, the team has won 30 games straight and has equalled an 82-year-old record. The last time the Italian national team won 30 games straight was from 1935 October to 1939 July under the managerial ship of Vittorio Pozzo. It was also the period when Italy picked up two FIFA World Cups in a row and a gold medal at the 1936 Olympic Games. A few days back, the country’s 30th consecutive win for the second time came against Wales in the tournament when they defeated the Welsh team with a scoreline of 1-0.

In a post-match interview, manager Roberto Mancini said, “Pozzo won many important trophies too, so we’re still far behind that level. Anyone who goes through to the Round of 16 can win the Euros, that’s for sure. Every game is difficult, we mustn’t think that we can win every game or that any of this is to be taken for granted. We thank the people of Rome for all they’ve done for us and hope everyone can get back to enjoying themselves.”
