IPL 2020: Overseas Debutants Who Can Take the Season by Storm

With the new schedule for IPL 2020 being recently announced, it is time to look at some of the most promising overseas debutants who have the potential to take the tournament by storm.

The 13th season of the Indian Premier League, originally scheduled to commence on 29 March before being suspended due to the global coronavirus pandemic, has now been scheduled from 19 September-10 November, 2020 in the UAE.

Along with the Indian players, the IPL seasons have always witnessed a spectacular display of cricket by some super talented overseas players like David Warner, Lasith Malinga, Chris Gayle etc. IPL 2020 is not expected to be different.

At the grand auction, along with the usual suspects that all found takers, there is also a fresh bunch of talent that has been roped in by the franchises to make things turn in their favour. Here are the overseas IPL debutants to watch out for:

Alex Carey- Delhi Capitals

After giving a massive boost to Aussie cricket over last one year, Alex Carey has now landed with Delhi Capitals post a bidding war amongst franchises.

The 28-year old wicketkeeper-batsman could be an ideal candidate to fill up the team’s middle order, which with Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane is predominantly Indian. Look out for him as with his experience and poise; he could easily take DC to the playoffs.

Tom Banton- Kolkata Knight Riders

Considered to be quite a hot prospect at the auctions, English player Tom Banton joined Kolkata Knight Riders at a base price of INR 1 Crore. Post a spectacular show at the Big Bash League; the young wicket-keeper has already been touted as Jos Buttler’s heir and a perfect replacement for Chris Lynn in the KKR.

With an impressive strike of over 158 and swift actions behind the stumps, Banton could be an IPL superstar in the making.

Fabian Allen- Sunrisers Hyderabad

Fabian Allen, considered to be a sweet deal at INR 50 Lacs, is one of the most exciting new talents from the West Indian limited over game circuit.

An all-rounder adept at all facets of the game, Allen is an excellent fit for the Orange Army, especially in the absence of Shakib Al Hassan. A prominent name in the T20 arena, Fabian Allen’s quick-fire knocks will be something to look forward to in the IPL 2020.

Sheldon Cottrell- Kings XI Punjab

Adding a Caribbean flavour to the IPL 2020, the West Indian superstar Sheldon Cottrell was bought by Kings XI Punjab for a whopping INR 8.5 Crores.

After regularly featuring in West Indies XI, Cottrell has earned the reputation of being a slingy fast bowler who can be a match-winner with his handy knocks.

The 31-year old is expected to give an edge and a significant boost to the KXIP’s pace attack. Watch out, as this West Indian looks all set to rule the 13th season of IPL!
