Apart from Kumar, which is more of a freak entry, Robin Uthappa is the Indian batsman with the longest six in the IPL.
You hit an economical 70-metre six or a 120-metre monster, you get six runs in either case. But then, the IPL is about more than just cricket, it also has a tadka of glamour and entertainment, and what’s more entertaining than a six which lands on the top tear, or better still is pummelled out of the park.
IPL 2020 saw some massive hits by the usual suspects. Nicholas Pooran, Jofra Archer, MS Dhoni and Chris Gayle struck some tremendous blows which went way over 100 metres. It may not be great for the overrate, but it is a delight to watch the ball flying out of the stadium, especially at Sharjah. This brings our attention to some of the longest sixes in the IPL over the years.
Pooran celebrating his milestone in the Indian Premier League
It shouldn’t be a surprise that Chris Gayle features four times in the list of 10 longest sixes in the IPL. AB de Villiers and MS Dhoni are the other usual suspects.
The record for the longest six in IPL history is held by South African all-rounder AlbieMorkel, who tonked a 125-metre six in the inaugural edition of the IPL itself. It is a surprise that despite so many big-hitters consistently depositing the ball into the stands, no one has been able to better the record since 2008.
The player with the second-longest six in the IPL is a surprise. Guess who? It is Praveen Kumar who belted a 124-metre monster in 2011. The medium-pacer smacked Mumbai Indians’ LasithMalinga out of the ground. Surely, the connection must have been just perfect.
Apart from Kumar, which is more of a freak entry, Robin Uthappa is the Indian batsman with the longest six in the IPL. Uthappa muscled a 120-metre six in IPL 2010 and currently sits at the fourth place in the list.
The other renowned Indian players to have picked the bones out of a cricket ball are, who else but MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh. While Yuvraj sent it 119-metre in IPL 2009, Dhoni’s 115-metre cracker came in the same edition as well. Not known for his power hitting, Gautam Gambhir hit a 117-metre six in IPL 2013.

With the new season in progress, can someone beat AlbieMorkel’s record from 2008, the first season of the Indian Premier League? Hard to determine but our money is on Rinku Singh!
