IPL Recap: Players With Maximum Runs Before Their First Ducks

Before being dismissed for a duck, David Miller scored 1450 runs in the IPL, the most by any batsman.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is one such cricket tournament where players are bombarded with pressure every second. Therefore, for batters, it is not uncommon to get out for a duck. After all, from the very first ball, bowlers give their all to send a player back home. Despite the pressure, some batsman have went onto score over 1,000 runs before facing their first ducks. In the following paragraphs, we have listed the top five batsman with most IPL runs before their first ducks.

David Miller (1,450 runs)

David Miller had a second wind with Rajasthan Royals after playing for Punjab for an extended period and tasting success as well. Miller has currently scored 2747 runs from 124 matches in the IPL at an average of 36.14 and strike rate of 138.18 with one century and 12 half centuries. He has the best of 101 not out in the competition with 191 fours and 126 sixes.

There is one unique record which is held by the South African batsman. He scored 1,450 runs in the tournament before pocketing his first duck, the most by any batsman.

Suresh Raina (1,408 runs)

Suresh Raina has made 5,528 runs in the IPL at an average of 32.52 and strike rate of 136.76. The Chennai Super Kings batsman has also struck 39 half centuries in the competition with the help of over 500 boundaries and over 200 sixes. He has the best of 100 not out and scored over 1,400 runs before bagging his first duck in the IPL.

Dwayne Bravo (1,154 runs)

Raina’s team mate and quality all-rounder Dwayne Bravo is mostly known for his bowling, but has played some fine knocks over the years with the bat as well. Bravo has made 1,560 runs from 161 matches at an average of 22.61 and strike rate of 129.57 with five half centuries and the best of 70 not out. He was not dismissed for a duck in the IPL until he reached 1,154 runs.

Matthew Hayden (1,076 runs)

Another Chennai Super Kings’ stalwart left handed opener Matthew Hayden scored over 1,000 runs before getting dismissed for a duck in the IPL. He made 1,107 runs at an average of 36.90 and a strike rate of 137.52 and had some red hot moments in the cash rich league. He was sent home for a duck after he scored 1,076 runs.

Shubman Gill (1,028 runs)

Shubman Gill is the one of the youngest batsmen in the IPL to have scored over 1,000 runs without being dismissed for a duck. So far, Gill has scored 2,829 runs from 93 matches in the IPL at an average of 37.22 and a strike rate of 134.20. In 2023, Gill ended IPL as the highest scorer, winning the Orange cap for his 890 runs.
