IPL: Top 5 run-getters of all time

It is no secret that the bat dominates the ball in shorter forms of the game and when the format is reduced to T20, it is the batsmen bossing the game more often than not.

Likewise, in the past 12 editions of the Indian Premier League as well, there have been some breathtaking batting on display. Here's the list of the top five run-scorers in IPL history:

Virat Kohli

It is no surprise that run machine Virat Kohli sits atop the run scoring charts in the IPL. Kohli has amassed 5412 runs from 177 IPL matches at an average of 37.84. Some might think that Kohli is more of an anchor and isn't capable of going all out. However, his career strike rate of over 130 defies that. The RCB skipper has struck five centuries and 36 half-centuries in the tournament.

Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina is called Mr IPL for good reason. Before Kohli overtook Raina, the CSK number three batsman was the leading run-scorer in the IPL for a long time, and still is only one of two batsmen to have crossed the 5000-run mark. The batsman, who remains unavailable for IPL 2020, has scored 5368 runs from 193 IPL matches - having played the most games among the top 10 run-getters.

Rohit Sharma

With three white-ball double centuries, it is only fair that somebody like Rohit Sharma features among the top five run-getters in IPL history. Rohit Sharma has 4910 runs from 189 IPL matches at an average of over 30 and a strike rate of over 130. Sharma has struck only one century - his career-best of 109 not out - but has as many as 36 half-centuries.

David Warner

David Warner has done so much for the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise that he has almost become a local player for the team. Apart from missing IPL 2018 due to his ban, Warner has been sensational for Hyderabad with 4706 runs from 126 IPL matches. Warner, who started off his IPL stint with Delhi, averages a brilliant 43.14 and strikes at 142.39.

Shikhar Dhawan

At number five in the list of highest run-scorers in the IPL is opener Shikhar Dhawan who moved bases from Deccan Chargers to Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad, and is now back at Delhi Capitals. Dhawan has scored 4579 runs from 159 IPL matches at an average of 33.42 and a strike rate of 124.80.
