iX set to Take on Tesla

With the BMW iX taking off its curtain, Tesla may have to encounter a fierce battle ahead

In the electric vehicle sector, the Tesla Model X has made headlines since its outset. The car from Musk is identified as one of the fastest SUVs in the world, with a seating space of seven and a total distance run of 597 km on a single charge. In terms of power delivery, the motor can touch 0-96 kmph in only 2.6 seconds. Overall, it’s an electric SUV that did not have any opponent at the time of its launch.

However, Tesla now has a worthy contender from the German giant BMW. The BMW iX has been revealed and the spec-sheet of the car appears to be spot-on.

Engine

The iX from BMW features two electric motors capable of spawning a peak potential of 507hp and offers an all-wheel-drive setting. On a sole charging session, the iX can cover an overall distance of 600 km, which is marginally higher than the Model X.

In terms of top speed, the iX can strike over 200 kpmh. While we do not know the definite number at present, we predict it to match Tesla’s top run of 249 kmph.

Styling, Exterior, and Chassis

The iX features an enormous butterfly styled black grille on the head with sleek LED headlight units on both the flanks. On the sides, it houses frameless doors with silver-coloured door handles and blacked-out D, B and C pillars. Further, the ORVMs have been finished in dual-colour tone.

Moving on to the rear end, iX offers a narrowly-lined LED rear lamp unit on both sides with a swooping top section that ends with a small spoiler.

The undercarriage of iX is an all-new aluminium space frame that holds a carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) structure on the inside. The skeleton of iX has been constructed after combining three ingredients; aluminium, composite plastic and CFRP.

Inside the cabin

It’s a BMW and hence, luxury items are available in plenty. The seats have been formed using recycled plastics whereas a hexagonal multi-functional steering wheel consists of most of the commands. In the centre, they have settled with a large infotainment system to give away a host of essential information.

Rivals

At present, there’s no report on the pricing of the modern vehicle from BMW. When launched, it will take on other electric cars such as the Tesla Model X, Audi e-tron quattro and Mercedes-Benz EQC.
