Our expectations from Keeway were little. However, their brand-new K-Light 250V cruiser has put a smile on our faces

Founded in 1999 and owned by China’s QJ Motor Group (the group that also owns Benelli), when Keeway announced it is coming to India, we had a neutral and basic reaction to the news. To be honest, given the company is only 22 years old in the motorcycle manufacturing business, our expectations from Keeway were few and we were not excited about the company or its products.

However, our opinion has taken a sharp U-turn because we never expected Keeway to launch a V-Twin motorcycle in the country. On 17 May 2022, the company made its official debut by launching a V-Twin motorcycle and two scooters. This article is all about the drool-worthy V-Twin cruiser K-Light 250V.

What is the importance of this article?

In India, there are lakhs of people who dream of owning a parallel-twin or V-Twin engine motorcycle. Sadly, the motorcycles with the said engine setups sold in India are costly. Given the fact that Keeway is known for aggressive pricing, we expect the K-Light cruiser to flaunt an affordable price-tag. Therefore, people must know about the motorcycle before they flock the showrooms.

The powertrain

A 249cc, oil-cooled, V-Twin engine that has a bore and stroke of 49mm and 66mm, respectively, along with a compression ratio of 10:01 powers the all-new K-Light. Keeway’s V-Twin machine makes a peak power of 18.7hp at 8,500rpm and a maximum torque of 19Nm at 5,500rpm. Not to forget, this is likely to be the first 250cc motorcycle in the world that features a V-Twin engine with a belt drive system.

In the eyes of many riders, the power figures of the motorcycle may seem quite low when compared to the existing rivals in the same segment. To be honest, we feel the same way about the hp and Nm numbers. However, given the K-Light features a V-Twin engine, we expect it to be much more refined than cruisers such as Avenger, Meteor, Yezdis and Jawas.

Other hardware

The K-Light is armed with an LED headlight, dual exhaust mufflers, digital instrument cluster, USD forks at the front, hydraulic shocks at the rear, along with disc brakes and ABS on both ends. For covering hundreds of kilometres without a halt, Keeway has equipped its brand-new cruiser with a 20-litre fuel tank. Last but not the least, the motorcycle features 120/80 R16 (front) and 140/70 R16 (rear) alloy wheels setup.
