Kate Cross: Of celebrations, and loyalties

England pace bowler Kate Cross was instrumental in taking Velocity to the final of the Women's T20 Challenge 2022.

Among the best

Kate Cross was among the best bowlers for the Deepti Sharma led Velocity in the Women's T20 challenge 2022 and finished as the second highest wicket taker in the competition just behind Pooja Vastrakar.

Cross took 5 wickets from three matches at an average of 16 and an economy rate of 7.27. She bowled with a strike rate of 13.2 and registered the best figures of 2 for 24 which she took in the first match of the competition.

Off day

In her second game which was against Trailblazers, Cross conceded 27 runs from 3 overs while picking up just one wicket thanks to the brilliant partnership between Sabbhineni Meghana and Jemimah Rodrigues who did not allow Cross to settle.

Despite Velocity losing that match by 16 runs, they were successful in qualifying to the final ahead of Trailblazers on the basis of net run rate.

This is what Velocity captain Deepti Sharma had to say after the match.

Deepti Sharma, Velocity skipper: Excited to be in the finals. The way we played as a team in both innings was extraordinary. In the second half we did well, because the way Kiran batted was nothing short of extraordinary. It was fun watching her bat from the sidelines. We set our batting order keeping the target in mind. We gave 25-30 runs extra because of fielding and hopefully we will make a comeback in the next game.

CSK loyalist

Cross was on the money in the final as well and picked up 2 wickets, that of Supernovas captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Sophie Ecclestone.

She gave away 29 runs from 4 overs and bowled at an economy rate of 7.20. Her celebration which soon spread like wildfire throughout the group was special and attracted the attention of whoever saw the competition.

Speaking of loyalty, it's an open secret that Kate Cross is a Chennai Super Kings fan and supports the franchise through and through. She has also expressed interest to play for Chennai Super Kings if and when the women franchise comes up with the women's IPL already in the pipeline.

Unfortunately for Kate Cross, her team Velocity fell short by four runs in the final.
