There is nothing one can't achieve if one has the zeal and the grit to do it. Shining examples of this vigour are the wheelchair tennis players of India, who didn't let the odd get in the way of their dream. There is no sport that has not seen a Paralympian competing. Even from India have emerged some great wheelchair tennis stars, making the nation proud worldwide. Here are some of those shining tennis stars.

Harry Boniface Prabhu

Indian quadriplegic wheelchair tennis player Prabhu was considered to be one of the pioneers of the sport in India. He won a medal at the 1998 World Championships and was awarded the Padma Shree in 2014. Prabhu has represented India, at International events, in six disciplines over 50 times. Just after two years of training in tennis, he participated in tournaments. Prabhu has a career-best world ranking of 17 in singles and 19 in doubles. In fact, he was the highest-ranked player in Asia in 2011. Prabhu has won 11 career titles. He has emerged winner at tournaments such as Sydney International Wheelchair Tennis Championship, Japan Open Wheelchair Tennis Championship, Sydney International Wheelchair Tennis Championship, the Singles - Florida open, and Doubles - Florida open. He was the runner-up at Sydney International Wheelchair Open Tennis and Australian Open.

Prathima Rao

In 2016 Rao won win both the singles and doubles medal in the state-level lawn tennis championship in Karnataka. The international wheelchair tennis player in 2013 represented Karnataka in the National Paralympic Wheelchair Tennis Championship, making it to the semi-finals. In 2015, she was a finalist in both the singles and doubles tournaments in the National Wheelchair Championship of India. At the Bangkok Cup, Rao won a consolation prize in the singles tournament and reached the quarter-finals in the doubles game. She also represented India in the Malaysia Cup in 2015, where she was a semi-finalist in the doubles tournament. She holds the 182nd world rank in her category.

Shekhar Veeraswamy

Veeraswamy jumped from an ITF ranking of 434 to 189 in five months. He has won three Nationals Singles in 2011, 2013, and 2015. In 2015, he also won the Doubles at the Bangkok Open.

Other wheelchair tennis players from India are Nalina Kumari, Shilpa Puttaraju, Amu, Balachandar, Shilpa K., Madhusudhan Hanuman Thappa, Anil Almeda and Gangadharappa, and Karthik K.
