An ultra-prominent peak stands for short, therefore a mountain summit with a topographic prominence of 1,500 meters or more. While we have humungous beautiful mountainous peaks and mountain ranges running across the lines of India, there are various ultra-peaks, too, adding to the beauty. The ultra-peaks may seem nothing in front of the highest, but they contain a variety of flora and fauna. Here is presenting a list of ultra-prominent peaks of India you should know about.

Pauhunri

This ultra-prominent peak is a mountain in the Eastern Himalayas, located on the border of Sikkim and Tibet. Situated about 75 km northeast of the Kangchenjunga range of mountains, Pauhunri has an elevation of 7,128 meters. This ultra-prominent peak marks the origin of the Teesta River.

Hathi Parbat

Also known as Elephant Peak, this ultra-prominent peak is located in the Garhwal Himalayas. It is located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand and has an elevation summit of 6,727 meters. As per the mythology, the two huge rocks on a spur of HathiParbat are a crow, the Kakabhushundi, and an eagle, the Garuda. It is said that the crow is animatedly conversing with the eagle on the affairs of the universe as it's described in Ramayana. At the same time, another version narrates that a learned Brahmin of Ayodhya once incurred the wrath of the sage Lomasa who lived here and was changed into the form of crow by the sage.

Kangto

Also known as KanggardoRize, this mountain is in the Eastern Himalayas, located in Arunachal Pradesh – where it is the highest point. This ultra-peak mountain shares its border with the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. This ultra-prominent peak is the source of the Pachukriver, which is one of the main tributaries of the Kameng river. Fun fact, Mount Kangto is a virgin peak.

NyegyiKangtsang

Also known as Ngyarisatam or Kyarisatam, this ultra-prominent peak is a mountain of the Eastern Himalayas. Located in the East Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh has an elevation of 7,047 meters. It is one of the highest mountains in Arunachal Pradesh, and Kameng, one of the important rivers in Arunachal Pradesh, is fed by Ngyarisatam Glacier glaciers.

Mount Saramati

From the surrounding peaks of the mountainous border of Nagaland state rises a peak above them, which is Mount Saramati. This ultra-prominent peak is located near Thanamir Village in the Kiphire district.

At the height of 3,826 meters and a prominence of 2,885 meters, Mount Saramati has a rich tribal heritage. Popularly known as the crown of Nagaland, it is one of the ultra prominent peaks of Southeast Asia.

Other ultra-prominent peaks of India are MamostongKangri K12 and Mol Len.
