Lamborghini: A Result of Ferrari’s Insult
If it wasn’t for an insult from Enzo Ferrari, Lamborghini would’ve never become a fancy sports car company
Words are like arrows or bullets. Once launched, they cannot be taken back. Hence, it is usually advised to think carefully before giving out a statement. While Ferrari is eminent in the world for being a leading sports car manufacturer, the founder Enzo was recognized as a personality full of pride. The man never shied away from using sharp comments and laid out his opinions in front of others with no hesitation.
It was his offensive words to Ford, which led to the creation of an accord between Ford and Carroll Shelby. Together, they developed an excellent racing car that was operated by legendary racer Ken Miles to defeat Ferrari at the Le Mans in 1966. Ford beat Ferrari, and Ferrari’s honour got turned into ashes.
While this tale is tempting, there’s another story about Enzo tasting dirt which people may not be aware of. It’s the story of Enzo insulting Ferruccio Lamborghini, who was a tractor manufacturer. To get revenge, Ferruccio gave us the Lamborghini we identify today; an expensive sports car company.
Tractor company
Back in the 1940s, Ferruccio opened a garage after completing his service in the Italian army. His father was a poor farmer who constantly craved a tractor. With limited funds in pocket, Ferruccio collected different parts from varied sources and built a tractor for his father.
Because of possessing a piece of professional knowledge in anything mechanical, Ferruccio decided to manufacture more tractors and formed a tractor manufacturing company. The venture succeeded, which made Ferruccio a prosperous man. Later on, he also ventured into building air conditioners and gas heaters.
The insult from Enzo
Being an affluent fellow, Ferruccio owned several Ferraris but identified several issues in them. He also found out that Ferrari used the same clutch in their high-end machines that Ferruccio used in his tractors. Ferruccio decided to see Enzo Ferrari to discuss this issue.
During the meet, Ferruccio said to Enzo, “You build your beautiful cars with my tractor parts.” To this statement, Enzo replied by saying, “You are a tractor driver, you are a farmer. You shouldn’t complain about driving my cars because they’re the best cars in the world.”
Birth of Lamborghini
An infuriated Ferruccio established the Automobili Lamborghini and built its debut car in 1963. Later in 1966, the Miura became the realm’s first supercar whereas 1970s Countach stunned the world. In this fashion, Ferruccio took his revenge!
