Letting Go Is Not Forgetting: How To Declutter Old Photos Without Feeling Guilty

Photos are a huge part of our memories and letting go of them is not easy!

You may find that there are tons of suggestions as to how to declutter your wardrobe and what not! But, what about photos? It is hard to get rid of old photos because they hold so many memories of important moments for us. It is almost like you are getting rid of those memories and that might end up making you feel guilty. It gets even harder when the nostalgia hits hard. However, you may sometimes feel overwhelmed by the huge amount of photos on your phone or your physical albums and decluttering becomes a necessity then. Here are some tips on how to declutter your old photos without feeling guilty!

Get Rid Of The Photos That Don’t Bring Back Good Memories

We sometimes don’t ever want to look back on certain moments from your life. Photos of such moments or photos that remind you of those moments don’t have any purpose lying around your house. For example, you may have a box full of photos with your ex boyfriend or girlfriend with whom you have parted ways in a not so civil way. Chances are you would not want to keep anything related to that person around your house. While you may have spent some good moments in life with that person and have pictures of such moments with you, keeping those photos would only disappoint you and bring back most of bad memories instead of the good ones. If there are photos that bring back more of the bad memories for you, you should get rid of them.

Discard The Photos That Are Damaged

This mostly happens to the physical photos. You will notice that photos taken probably a decade or two ago have started fading or become damaged because of exposure to moisture. There is no point of keeping these photos with you any longer because they will just get more damaged further. If you come across any such damaged photos, get rid of them!

Get Rid Of Duplicate Photos

Sometimes we take too many photos of the same object to get the perfect shot. As a result, we have photos of the same object, in the same place from multiple angles. Choose one of the photos that you think looks the best and discard the rest of the duplicate photos.
