10 assists, the highest number

In the history of the FIFA World Cup, the highest number of assists is 10 and the player to hold this record is Edson Arantes do Nascimento. Fondly called Pele, Brazil’s genius took part in four editions of the World Cup. Out of four editions, his gameplay helped Brazil win three. The boy who should not have become a footballer

Known as the Atomic Flea, the little magician was diagnosed with growth deficiency syndrome when he was a kid. However, Messi’s gameplay impressed Barcelona, and the club gave the best medical treatment to him and moulded him into the player he is today. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner holds a second place on this list with six assists. He has scored at least one assist in every World Cup he has taken part in. Last year, Messi won his first crucial international trophy with Argentina.

Five assists, two players

Third on the list are two players who hold the record for assisting five goals in the World Cup history. Coincidently, both the players belong to the country of Colombia. The first player is Juan Cuadrado who is presently the number 11 of Juventus. The second player is his teammate James Rodriguez, who was once considered the next big thing in the world of football. However, he slowly fell off the good books and at present, is playing for a Qatar-based team named Al Rayyan.

Last but not the least, Thomas Muller, Schweinsteiger, Eden Hazard and Bruyne jointly hold the fourth sport for four assists in World Cup history.
