May 7 every year is celebrated as World Athletics Day all over the globe. The occasion's main objective is to spread awareness of fitness and encourage people of all age groups to participate in sports. The event is very significant and involves thousands of young people in various athletics activities.

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) introduced this event in 1996 as a social responsibility project titled "Athletic for a Better World".

Every year, it is celebrated in various ways, including workshops, seminars, training sessions, and competitions.

Today, on World Athletics Day, let's discuss the importance of sports in a student's life.

It reduces stress: Students nowadays are often stressed due to various reasons. As studies have found, the best way a student can reduce his/her stress level is by taking part in sports. It also helps in the psychological development of a student, and more.

It enhances fitness: Needless to say, that sports can help improve a student's overall fitness levels to a great extent. It also helps them develop healthy eating habits and practice a good lifestyle. Moreover, it controls blood sugar levels, regulates blood pressure, and cholesterol levels, and improves muscle strength. It helps reduce the risk of chronic diseases like diabetes, cancer, heart disease, etc.

It builds life skills: Sports can be the best education a student can have! Cricket, football, tennis, basketball, etc. help build the overall character of a student. Also, it teaches important life skills such as values, ethics, discipline, teamwork, leadership, time management, patience, learning from failure, and more. Studies have found that students who often participate in sports are better at developing social relationships.
