Mohammed Siraj, red ball vs white
Mohammed Siraj was not picked in the Indian T20 World Cup squad but has been doing exceptionally well in red ball cricket. Siraj has already picked up 30 wickets from his short test career of 9 matches and appears to be pushing Ishant Sharma out of the playing XI. While he has grown by leaps and bounds ever since his test match debut in Australia, Siraj is still to attain the same status in white ball cricket.
Despite delivering for Royal Challengers Bangalore over the last couple of years in the Indian Premier League, Siraj was not picked in India T20 World Cup squad and while he said that selection was not in his hands, like anyone, he was a bit disappointed after the snub.
"Selection is not in our hands. It was certainly a dream to play in the T20 World Cup. But again, that is not the end of it all. I have many more goals: the biggest being to play a lead role in helping the team to win matches," said Siraj. "The England tour was a great experience by any stretch of imagination. I am glad that I could repose the faith of my captain, Virat bhai, head coach Ravi Shastri, the support staff and the entire team."
"I will take things as they come, for I believe in destiny and be content in whatever opportunities I get even as the pursuit for excellence at the highest level continues. Definitely, bowling in tandem with big names like Shami bhai, Ishant bhai and Jasprit (Bumrah) bhai is a huge learning curve for me. They were so supportive and always came up with invaluable tips to keep improving my bowling. This team is on a high after the memorable series win in Australia. It is a team with complete balance in all departments."
With the ability to hit 140 kph consistently and hold his line and length, be it in swing or out swing, over the wicket or round the wicket, Mohammed Siraj is a great weapon to have in the Indian armory in Test cricket.
While he is slowly getting there, the pacer will have to work on his variations and consistency a bit more in T20 cricket to cement his spot in the Indian white ball set up as well.
