More Than Just a Dancing Star, Few Underrated Performances of MithunChakrabarty

Mithun Chakraborty was a huge star during the 80s and it is said that his popularity in the 80s crossed the popularity of Amitabh Bachchan also. His movies like Disco Dancer, Boxer, etc were blockbusters but Mithun Chakraborty is a very good actor also along with being a dancing star. Here are some underrated performances of Mithun Chakraborty that deserves a mention.

Mrigaaya (1976) 

Mrigayaa is a 1976 Indian historical drama film directed by Mrinal Sen and Mithun Chakraborty made his debut with it.

Mrigayya is set during the ’30s, and it was Mithun Chakraborty’s debut movie where he played the role of a tribal who is regarded as one of the best hunters. The movie showcased the atrocity of landlords on poor villagers. Mithun gave a terrific performance in the movie and won the National Award for Best Actor for the film. Very few actors achieved this feat to win a National Award for their debut movie. It also won Mrinal Sen a National Award for Best Film. The movie was not a commercial success but was critically acclaimed.

PyarJhuktaNahin (1985)

During the 80s Mithun Chakraborty was famous for his action and dance movies but he proved his versatility with PyaarJhuktaNahi, a romantic drama.

PyaarJhuktaNahin was one of the biggest hits of the 80s and is regarded as one of the best movies of Mithun Chakraborty. The movie featured PadminiKolhapure opposite Mithun Chakraborty and Mithun Chakraborty gave a very sensitive performance in this movie where he played the father of a kid and is separated from his wife because of some misunderstanding.

PremPratigya (1989)

PremPratigya was a romantic movie featuring Mithun Chakraborty and Madhuri Dixit in lead roles.

PremPratigya was a commercial movie, with song-dance sequences and an obligatory love triangle. But, what set it apart are the screenplay & the performances. Mithun Chakraborty played the role of an alcoholic with no real meaning to live and life wholly changes when he falls in love with Laxmi played by Madhuri Dixit. MithunChakrabarty gave a meaningful and sensitive performance in the movie.

Swami Vivekananda (1998)

As the name suggests, it was a biopic on one of the most famous and respected Indians ever, Swami Vivekananda, and Mithun played the role of RamkrishnaParamhansa in the movie.

Mithun Chakraborty played the role of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa in the movie. Mithun’s truthful portrayal of Ramakrishna was extensively appreciated by everyone and he won his third National Film Award for the film. Shri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa was Swami Vivekananda’s spiritual guru and mentor.
