What is an antique? The priceless things that are remains from ancient times become a part of the archeological artifacts of each country. Archeological departments around the world are everyday finding newer and valuable antiques and researching about them. You may not believe but some of these artifacts are almost a million years old and extremely valuable. Their prices, if sold, depend on the precious gems they might carry or the historical significance they may have. So let’s take a look at few of the most expensive antiques around the world…

The Sword of Napoleon – Napoleon Bonaparte, the military general, had a gold-encrusted sword that he used at the Battle of Austerlitz. This sword is considered to be one of the most expensive antiques and it was sold for 6.4 million dollars. Coincidentally the sword went to the same Bonaparte family at the auction.

Pinner Qing Dynasty Vase – This Chinese vase, which features beautiful fish and flower motifs, was sold for a record price of 80 million dollars in London. Studies say this vase was made in between 1736 and 1795 for the Chinese emperor Qianlong. Surprisingly, the price paid for this artifact is one of the highest ever paid at any auction for a Chinese historical item.

Leonardo da Vinci’s codex Leicester – This document is actually a collection of writings on scientific researches done by Leonardo da Vinci and it is said to be his one his most significant works. It was sold for 30.8 million dollars in 1994 to Bill Gates making it one of the most expensive books ever sold.This manuscript was written between the years of 1506 and 1510.

Pink star Diamond –This 59.50 carat pink star diamond set a world auction record when it was sold for 71.2 million dollars to Henry Cheng Kar-Shun. This diamond was mined by De Beers in 1999 in one of their mines in South Africa. The size and colour of this diamond is what makes it so special!

Ru Guanyao Brush Washer Bowl – Yes, it may seem like just a bowl but it was sold for a price of 37.68 million dollars! This little dish is only 5.125 inches and it is considered extremely rare. This turquoise bowl was sold at Sotheby’s auction in Hong Kong.
