Most Expensive Movies Ever made in India (Part I)

In the earlier days especially before the 2000s, the budget was a big concern in Bollywood because movies were financed by producers who have a limited budget with them. But with corporate houses getting involved in this business, budget is not a concern anymore. Here we have listed down the most expensive movies from India.

2.0

2.0 was a sequel to the 2010 hit movie Robot and it featured Rajnikanth reprising his role from the first part and Akshay Kumar. With a budget of 450 crores, it’s the most expensive movie made in India.

Shankar the director of the movie is always known for making big-budget extravaganzas and when he decided to make the sequel of his blockbuster Robot, he signed Rajikanth to continue his part and Akshay Kumar as the main antagonist and the budget of the movie went up to 450 crores mainly because of its VFX and CGI.

Saaho

Saaho was a bilingual movie made in Telegu and Hindi and it featured Prabhas of Bahubali fame along with Sharddha Kapoor in the female lead. The budget of the movie was a whopping 350 crores.

Again it’s a South Indian movie on the list and it seems that they are quite comfortable with spending huge amounts on a single movie. After the Baahubali series, Prabhas became a household name and one of the very few Pan India actors with fans from across the country. Saaho was a crime-action drama and it had a budget of 350 crores making it the second most expensive movie on this list.

Thugs of Hindostan

Thugs of Hindostan was a Hindi language movie produced by Yash Raj Films and it featured Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan together for the first time on the big screen.

Thugs of Hindostan was a period action drama set during the British Raj and it had Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif, and Fatima Sana Sayeed in pivotal roles. Made with a budget of 275 crores, this movie till now is the most expensive movie made in Bollywood. It didn’t do that well at the box office because of its poor script still it was lauded for its sets, VFX, and grand action sequences.

Baahubali: The Conclusion

The sequel of the blockbuster movie Baahubali, this movie was made with a budget of 250 crores and it’s one of the biggest hits in Indian cinema.

Baahubali was the first movie that broke the language barrier and despite being originally a Telegu movie that was dubbed into other languages, it became a big hit. Baahubali 2 was the most awaited movie at that time because of the success of its prequel and it had a budget of 250 crores.
