Most peaceful travel destinations in India

It is a common thing to travel for a vacation if you are over worked or too hassled with your regular life. If you are looking for peace and quite along with a change of scene, travelling to a tourist hub like Goa or Manali is hardly advisable.  We have made a list of holiday destination where you can head off to when peace and quiet is your priority.

Pondicherry

The name Pondicherry has now been changed to Puducherry recently but it still remains the same old former French colony with an easy pace of life. It is like the Lakshadweep minus the distance and like Goa minus the crowd. You can stroll on paved roads enjoying the well-preserved French building in one of the heritage-walks or spend time watching the sunrise and sunset from many promenades around the city. There are many cafes and bistros where you can sit and idle the day away. There are many untouched beaches dotted along the coastline which you can visit or dig into many delicious French and local cuisines. If you feel you have had enough relaxation, you can also take part in water sports or take a bicycle ride around the place.

Gwalior

Even though Gwalior is one of the largest cities in central India and is surrounded by industrial and commercial zones, it still maintains an easy pace of life making it ideal for a relaxed holiday. Many forts and museums in the city is a testimony of the place’s rich history which were made by the Rajputs and Marathas in different times. You can choose to enjoy what is called the “Heart of India” by loitering along the corridors of history or enjoy the street food. The only thing to keep in mind is Gwalior’s extreme weather. The best time to visit this historical city is during spring and early winter.

Sikkim

What better place to chill out than in the smallest and least populated state in India – Sikkim. The state is nestled in the Himalaya sharing its borders with Bhutan, Nepal and China. Sikkim is an ideal summer destination with maximum temperature never crossing the 30 degree Celsius mark. There is snow in the wintersthat remain for almost four months. However, a peaceful vacation in Sikkim can go beyond enjoying the nature and majestic views of the Kangchenjunga. You may visit its many monasteries, lakes and quaint little villages where the pace of life remains largely unaffected by modern times.

Coorg

Kodagu or Coorg district in Karnataka is also known for its coffee plantation, beautiful weather, rich sandalwood and teak forests and a very easy pace of life. One visit and you will understand why is it called the Scotland of India. The place is rich in culture so there are many forts and old religious places that you can visit. However, the main USP of Coorg is its nature and seemingly endless coffee plantations. You may watch the sunset with a panoramic view of the surrounding hills from Raja’s seat or visit the beautiful island of Nisargadhama and stay in cottages. If trekking or cycling is how you unwind, there are many opportunities of that too in Coorg.
