He has one century and one half century to his name and has struck 29 boundaries. It is no surprise that O'Brien leads the run charts for Ireland. In fact, he was the top run scorer for the country in the team's maiden fixture against Pakistan in test cricket.
Kevin O'Brien scored 40 in Ireland's 1st innings which was bundled out for just 130. Following on, he showed great composure for a man who had played little red ball cricket in his career and made 118 off 217 balls at a strike rate of 54.38. However, Ireland went on to lose the match by 5 wickets.
Kevin O' Brien was awarded the Player of the Match and had this to say after the loss:
"If the morning session could have been slightly better for us then we could have pushed for a win. It was disappointing for us not to get more runs. I tried to forget about yesterday, that was probably the toughest part as there was a lot of attention from the media and on twitter. I am not used to batting for five and a half hours. I played the situation, we needed to stick in and rotate the strike. I am renowned for slogging the ball but I played according to the game situation".
