Most successful 300+ targets chased in ODIs

India have mastered the art of run chases in ODI cricket. 17 - India (out of 73 such targets) With MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli at the helm, India have become a brilliant chasing side. Even if the target is upwards of 350, the team backs itself to chase it. This is the reason why India have successfully chased down 17 of 73 300+ targets in ODI - more than any other team.

Virat Kohli talks about how he picked things up from the now-retired MS Dhoni and then concentrated on the process to bring India so much success in run chases.

"I was always someone who kept talking to MS Dhoni about the game so even when I was really young, before I was made vice-captain, I would give him my suggestions. Not in a way that I thought I knew better but I felt at certain moments I could probably see this thing that someone else might not be able to pick up. So why not go and express myself? I love thinking about the game and that’s why I enjoy captaincy so much and I enjoy chasing totals so much – I love using my brain to figure out what needs to be done during the game."

"I’ve learned the most from MS, standing so close to him at slip so many times and just observing him at close quarters. When I do well or I don’t do well, it’s not about thinking twice, only going forward. Results are a bi-product of that mindset. I believe in giving total freedom to the guys to go out there and play the way they want to, and to be fearless."

12 - Eng (46) England under Eoin Morgan have adopted the style of going hard at the bowlers and this does not change even if the team is chasing a target. England have come up with a new strategy where they pack the side with batting ability right down to number 11 and then unleash against the bowlers.

The method has been quite successful as England have managed to chase down 12 of 46 300 + targets. A lot of credit for this goes to captain Morgan for instilling the belief in the side and also to the likes of Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow and Alex Hales for ensuring that the team gets off to flying starts consistently.

11 - Aus (39), 10 - SL (76), 6 - SA (34), 6 - NZ (49) and 6 - Pak (54) lie next in the list.
