Most successive defeats overseas for West Indies

West Indies were unsuccessful in beating India in one day internationals between 2019 and 2022 in 11 attempts.

Struggle to find the right tempo

It is almost unrealistic to note that a team of the calibre of West Indies has not won a single one day international against India from 2019 onwards.

Accepted that their players are more suited to the T20 format, with them not clear about their tempo when it comes to 50 over cricket. Still, 11 games is a long enough period and with the kind of players that West Indies possess, they should have cracked the code at least once.

Their most recent series defeat against India came in 2022 in a three-match series played entirely at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad where they not only lost all the three matches but lost them by big margins.

Another defeat India cleaned them up by 6 wickets in the first one day international. As the home side won the second ODI by 44 runs, they took an unassailable lead in the series.

This is what West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran who was standing in for Kieron Pollard had to say after the loss.

"With the bat, we didn't build partnerships. We kept losing wickets at regular intervals. In the 39th over, we lost Fabian first and then Hosein in the very next. We need to continue to be aggressive. Pollard is a tough and big guy and should be back. Smith is a strong guy. He is a little inexperienced but sky is the limit for him. We did a good job with the ball and hopefully we can do the same in the final game. And also do better with the bat."

Clean swept

West Indies lost the third ODI by a massive margin of 96 runs. Pooran had a few words to add after the one-sided series ended.

"Must say congratulations to India. Way we bowled in the series was wonderful. Have a lot of work to do in 50 overs. Way the guys bowled in the last two games was fantastic. Have a lot of work to put in in the longer formats."

This losing streak is not novel for West Indies though as they lost 9 successive ODIs between 1999 and 2000 and 8 successive one day internationals between 2009 and 2010.
