Most wickets in day's play

The most number of wickets to fall in a single day of test cricket stands at 27 which came about on Day 2 of a Lord's test match between England and Australia in 1888. 27 Eng v Aus, Lord's, 1888 (Day 2) It was 1888 and matches were often played on uncovered surfaces. There was just too much moisture to help the bowlers as life became hell for even the best of batsmen.

In a test match between Australia and England in 1888 at the Lord's Cricket Ground, the match was over within 2 days. While Australia made 116 and 60 runs in the two innings, England could only manage 53 and 62 from their two innings. Australia won the match by 61 runs.

The second day or the last day of the test match was particularly action packed as 27 wickets fell on the day with England bowled out for 62 in the final innings.

25 Aus v Eng, MCG, 1902 (Day 1) 

Fast forward to 1902 in Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and the conditions were not a lot different. This time, it was Australia who got the rub of the green as they ended up making 353 runs in the second innings following up on 112 in their first innings.

However, England after being bowled out for just 61 in the first innings could get up to only 175 in their second innings as they lost the match by 229 runs.

25 wickets fell on the second day but the match carried on till day 4.

Day 2 of the test match between England and Australia saw 24 wickets fall in a heap.

In the second innings, Afghanistan could make just 103 runs while following on. HashmatullahShahidi made an unbeaten 36 off 88 deliveries. While RavindraJadeja picked up 4 wickets, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav shared 5 wickets between them on the second and the final day of the test match to help India to a victory by an innings and 262 runs.
